The empirical analysis combines graphical exploration with panel data econometric models, including both fixed and random effects estimations. Results indicate that military expenditure per capita has a statistically significant and positive impact on high-tech export performance. Specifically, the estimated elasticity for OECD countries is approximately 0.2513, implying that a 10% increase in defense spending per capita is associated with a 2.5% increase in high-tech exports per capita. This effect is even stronger for NATO countries, where the elasticity rises to 0.4204, indicating a 4.2% increase in high-tech exports per capita following the same percentage increase in military expenditure. These findings support the hypothesis that defense-related R&D investments when integrated within coherent innovation and industrial policies can significantly foster economic modernization through spillovers into export-oriented technological sectors. The results highlight the strategic role that defense expenditure can play in enhancing national technological competitiveness, especially in contexts characterized by stronger institutional integration between military and civilian innovation systems.
