RT journal article T1 Hub Location with Protection under Inter-Hub Link Failures A1 Blanco, Víctor A1 Fernández Areizaga, Elena A1 Hinojosa, Yolanda A2 Estadística e Investigación Operativa K1 hub location K1 integer programming K1 robust network design K1 disruptions AB This paper introduces the hub location problem under interhub link failures, ahub location problem in which activated interhub links may fail with a given probability. Two different optimization models are studied, which construct hub backbone networksprotected under interhub link disruptions by imposing that, for each commodity, an additionalrouting path exists besides its original routing path. Both models consider the minimizationof the fixed costs of the activated hubs and interhub links plus the expected value ofthe routing costs of the original and alternative paths. The first model builds explicitly thealternative routing paths, whereas the secondmodel guarantees that, for each commodity, atleast one alternative path exists using a large set of connectivity constraints although thealternative paths are not built explicitly. The results of extensive computational testing allowus to analyze the performance of the two proposed models and to evaluate the extra costrequired to design a robust backbone network under interhub link failures. The obtainedresults support the validity of the proposal.
