RT journal article T1 Children living in residential care from teachers’ voices A1 Morales-Ocaña, Amelia A1 Pérez-García, Purificación A2 Didáctica K1 Acogimiento Residencial K1 Educación K1 Escuela K1 Profesorado AB Teachers have the potential to be key figures in the educational progressof children in care. This study is based on semi-structured interviews with16 primary school teachers of children in residential care. It explores theteachers’ understandings of their pupils in residential care as well as themain issues they recalled from their experiences working with saidpopulation. It also enquires into the possible requirements suggested byteachers in order to improve their educational intervention. Resultssuggest that teachers had more knowledge and control over theacademic aspect than over emotional and behavioural issues of childrenin residential care. They found difficulties to address emotional andbehavioural needs of these children. This fact is related to a lack ofstructural support and constitutes a significant barrier to the educationof children residential in care.
