O SESC em São Paulo: vocação educativa e transversalidade

Abstract

O presente artigo tem por objetivo apresentar, em linhas gerais, o Serviço Social do Comércio-Sesc, instituição socioeducativa brasileira criada em 1946 pelo empresariado do comércio e presente em todos os estados do país, focalizando sua atuação no estado de São Paulo. Para tanto, serão considerados o contexto histórico que assistiu a criação dessa instituição, bem como as interfaces estabelecidas com as demandas e expectativas sociais ao longo das últimas sete décadas. Serão abordadas, dentre as características principais do Sesc, a polivalência no que se refere aos seus campos de atuação, assim como a centralidade das conexões entre educação e cultura.

The objective of this present article is to present, in general terms, the Comercio-Sesc Social Services, a Brazilian socio-educational institution created in 1946 by the business world and present in all of the states in the country, focusing its activities in the state of Sao Paulo. In order to do this, the historical context which led to the creation of this institution will be considered, as well as the interfaces established with social expectations and demands over the last seven decades. Among the main characteristics of the Sesc, its versatility regarding its fields of activity, as well as the centrality of the links between education and culture will both be discussed.
