El espectro radioeléctrico como medio de vida

Abstract

Varias cosas son necesarias para poder vivir. Para mucha gente, son cosas que se consideran solamente cuando ya se están perdiendo, y cuando su desaparición puede llevar a la nuestra. Aire, agua, y alimento son claves para nuestra existencia biológica. ¿Pero qué es lo fundamental para los humanos como seres comunicativos y sociales? Oculto del público, el espectro radioeléctrico es una estructura natural sobre la que estos procesos son construidos. Nuestro uso de la tecnología, que a su vez utiliza el espectro, crea y mantiene una relación entre la humanidad y la naturaleza y, aún más, con la sociedad. Este trabajo presenta el concepto de medio de vida. Propone que el espectro radioeléctrico es la base de toda comunicación inalámbrica, y en consecuencia, esta forma de comunicación existe a una escala tan grande que es vital para nuestra existencia colectiva.

There are things we cannot do without. For most individuals in the developed world, these are things we take note of perhaps most often when we are at risk of losing them and when that loss may mean our disappearance as well. Air, water, food. These are the things that are key to our basic mammalian existence. But what about humans as communicative social beings? While most people may not even acknowledge its existence, the electromagnetic spectrum is a natural structure upon which these processes are built. Our use of technology that, in turn, utilizes the spectrum, creates and maintains a relationship between humankind and nature and among humankind itself. This paper develops the concept of life-media. It proposes that the spectrum is the foundation of all wireless communication and that that it is vital to our collective existence as social beings.
