Un proyecto de fuerte en Jerez de la Frontera durante el Lustro Real

Abstract

En los años de estancia de la Corte en Sevilla (1729-1733), se elaboraron dos proyectos de fuerte en fajina y tierra, uno en la capital hispalense y otro en Jerez de la Frontera. Su función era la diversión y la educación del príncipe don Fernando y los infantes don Carlos y don Felipe. Mediante su asedio podrían aprender táctica militar y nociones de fortificación necesarias en su formación. En el presente artículo se indagará en el de Jerez, del que se aporta un plano inédito. Este proyecto puede atribuirse al ingeniero Isidro Próspero de Verboom, autor documentado del fuerte sevillano.

During the Court’s stay in Seville (1729-1733), two forts made with mud and fascines were planned in Seville and Jerez de la Frontera. Their function was to amuse and educate the prince Fernando and the infants Carlos and Felipe. Through its besiege, they could learn military and fortification tactics, both required in their formation. This article will look at the fort of Jerez and present an unpublished plan. The project can be attributed to engineer Isidro Próspero de Verboom, who also planned the Sevillian fort.
