Escritura impresa vs. escritura manuscrita en la Costa Rica del siglo xix. Actitudes y creencias en torno a la manifestación escrita

Abstract

Se da por hecho muchas veces que los trasiegos de formas gráficas de una época a otra tienen su base en cambios regulares, auspiciados por normas sugeridas o impuestas a través de corporaciones académicas. Sin embargo, esta supuesta regularidad –tan relevante en los procesos de datación textual– se desmonta desde el filtrado de los textos a través de variables como ‘espacio geográfico’, ‘tipo textual’, ‘contexto social’, ‘ejecutor escritural’ o ‘manifestación en tinta’ (si tipo móvil o pluma). Con objeto de dar visibilidad operativa y metodológica a las variables anteriores, este trabajo pondrá en parangón la evolución gráfica de la prensa costarricense del siglo XIX con los escritos a puño y letra encontrados en los archivos de Gobernación del mismo periodo y en el mismo espacio geográfico. Estos contrastes concluirán manfiestaciones actitudinales y creenciales en torno al aparato gráfico de la lengua en un periodo determinado y en una diatopía concreta.

It is often taken for granted that the shuffling of graphic forms from one era to another has its basis in regular changes, promoted by rules suggested or imposed through academic corporations. However, this supposed regularity –highly relevant in textual dating processes– is detached from the filtering of texts through variables such as ‘geographical space’, ‘textual type’, ‘social context’, ‘executor of text’ or ‘expression in ink’ (whether type or pen). In order to give operational and methodological visibility to the above variables, this work will parallel the graphical evolution of the Costa Rican press of the 19th century with handwritten writings found in the archives of the Government of the same period and in the same geographical territory. These contrasts will show attitudes and beliefs concerning the graphic apparatus of the language in a given time span and in a specific space.
