Abstract

This work is presented within the Thesis model as a compendium of publications, and includes three papers published from the month of November 2022 to the present. They are JCE papers of first, second and third quartiles. All papers deal about our research with bariatric surgery and its effects in terms of the changes that the pancreas undergoes in its physiology and functionality, as well as the consequences among the type of surgery carried out. Following this, the metabolic and pathophysiological consequences of surgeries are analysed. In particular, greater emphasis is placed on the statistical treatment of data used in biomedical research and on the errors that most frequently occur in the accepted international bibliography (especially regarding the use of the standard error of the mean (SEM), of the variability or the calculation of the area under the curve (AUC)). As a summary of the conclusions reached: new experimental surgical methods are carried out, observing early and late compensations in insulin secretion and the mechanisms that not only resolve, but also determine, the failure of these structures. We observe the behaviour of the different portions of the digestive tract in these absorptive and endocrine secretory components. The work ends with a complete protocol to consider the correct treatment of the data in this type of research and the observation of correct statistics thereof.
