Una nota bibliográfica acerca del «Cuento del novio novillo» del Diccionario crítico-burlesco: la autocensura de Gallardo

Abstract

En la primera edición del Diccionario crítico-burlesco (1811) de Bartolomé José Gallardo se observa una doble tirada del texto, con una modificación importante en el cuento del novio novillo, que cierra la entrada de «alma». Pensamos que esa variante del texto responde a un episodio de autocensura por parte del autor, que elimina así la mezcla de lo sacro con lo profano, dentro del ámbito burlesco de los cuernos, que delatan la imagen del marido deshonrado. Una corrección necesaria para salvar la censura moral y religiosa de la época y que plantea algunos problemas bibliográficos relacionados con esa primera edición

In the first edition of Bartolomé José Gallardo’s Diccionario crítico-burlesco(1811) there is a double printing of the text, with an important modification in the tale of the young groom, which closes the «alma» entry. We think that this variant of the text responds to an episode of self-censorship on the part of the author, who thus eliminates the mixture of the sacred and the profane, within the burlesque sphere of the horns, which betray the image of the dishonoured husband. A necessary correction to overcome the moral and religious censorship of the time raising some bibliographical problems related to that first edition.
