Occidental Lexicon in Notarial Documentation from Cádiz: between the Dialectalism and the Norm in Wills from 18th Century

Abstract

Se presenta un estudio histórico del léxico localizado en documentación notarial del municipio gaditano de Medina Sidonia, datada entre 1746 y 1800, en concreto, un total de cuarenta y cinco testamentos cuyo núcleo principal es un inventario o relación de bienes. Para este trabajo, se parte de la hipótesis de la presencia de regionalismos léxicos, cuyo uso, además de alejarse del español normativo, corrobora la presencia de vocablos de otras áreas dialectales en el ámbito andaluz, concretamente, occidentalismos, voces asociadas a la franja occidental peninsular.

This paper presents a historical study of the lexicon found in notarial documents from the municipality of Medina Sidonia (Cadiz), dated between 1746 and 1800, specifically, a total of forty-five wills whose main nucleus is an inventory or list of assets. This work is based on the hypothesis of the presence of lexical regionalisms, whose use, in addition to moving away from the normative Spanish, corroborates the presence of words from other dialectal areas in Andalusia, specifically lexical occidentalisms.
