Abstract

The integration of curricular sustainability in education is an urgent and priority change. Humanity demands the need for a sustainable approach that is based on systemic, holistic and quality education. The main aim of the research is based on analysing the changes in the perspective of pre-service teachers of Primary and Elementary Education (University of Zaragoza, Spain) about professional competencies in education for sustainability. The study was proposed as an interpretative approach, with measures pre and post the intervention programme created. The Cebrian & Junyent (2014) questionnaire was used with a sample of 20 pre-service teachers. Some of the results were as follows: (a) pre-service teachers weigh up the development of knowledge and practical skills as key aspects on which sustainability competences should be based; (b) pre-serviced teachers stand on the importance of looking at sustainability holistically, considering the social, environmental and economic levels; (c) they consider that for the development of sustainability education is based on contextualizing problems in a collaborative way; (d) the management of emotions are the priority skills in education for sustainability for future teachers. In conclusion, this study provides an advance in the knowledge of curricular sustainability in the university context, competence level as well as practical level based on the intervention programme created and implemented: Dar un paso.
