This paper measures the growth in pure technical efficiency of Spanish Ports
System from 2017 to 2018 in order to assess trends in the overall throughput. The second
objective is to produce more realistic efficiency estimations guaranteeing the independency of the selected sample of Ports. The results of the analysis indicate that the bootstrapped DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method is significantly different to classical DEA estimations.
The evidence suggests that the greatest differences among the values of DEA efficiency
and Bootstrap efficiency are most significant in those ports with original efficiency equal
to one. This is more relevant Valencia (13.33%), Barcelona (14.62%), Cartagena (14.64%),
Huelva (15.67%), Motril (22.01%), Algeciras Bay (25.20%) and at a lower level to Melilla
(28.28%), Baleares (28.85%) and Ceuta (28.91%).
