Sustainability is increasingly present in classrooms; however, there remains a notable lack of knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda at the university level. This study examines the prior perceptions of SDGs knowledge held by students entering the Master´s Degree in Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training and Language Teaching (MAES), future teachers who will be responsible for integrating these issues into their educational practice. To this end, a quantitative study was conducted with 296 students beginning the MAES in the 2024/25 academic year. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive and inferential techniques with SPSS v. 29. The main findings reveal, on the one hand, limited knowledge of the SDGs due to insufficient prior training and, on the other, that contextual variables play a relevant role in students’ responses. The conclusions highlight the need for increased training, both in formal and nonformal settings, to enhance future teachers’ awareness of the SDGs so that they can fulfil their role as promoters of educational change towards sustainability.
